The plains of this area are home to wealthy farmers' residences surrounded by high stone walls and whitewashed buildings, the gorgeous udatsu-lined streets of Wakimachi, and the rhythm of the "Awa Odori" dance, which gives a glimpse of the former glory of the indigo merchants who were responsible for the distribution of indigo dye and who flew across the country.
